Wedding Ceremony & Reception At The Skirball Cultural Center

These photos were taken at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, CA. Both the ceremony and reception occured on location. This venue is similar to the Getty Center Los Angeles in terms of its architecture. There are large open spaces with clean lines making it easy to compose photographs. The photo above is of the bride and groom as they see each other for the first time.

The getting ready photos were also shot on location. The Skirball Cultural Center has seperate rooms for the bride and groom. The rooms are close to each other so I didn't have to run around. I was second shooting for Rudy Arpia and while he covered the bride, I gave coverage to the groom. The rooms didn't have any windows so everything was shot with the available light or with flash. The hairstylist was great, he wasn't just styling hair, he was also striking some dynamic poses for us.

The weather was nice with an occasional breeze which made for interesting candid moments. The bride and groom didn't have a bad side/angle, so all the photos turned out great.

During the ceremony I shot from the second floor while Rudy covered the main floor. The photo above of the ceremony, was taken using the 16-32mm f2.8 lens from the second floor. There was still plenty of light during the ceremony so we did not have to use the flash. The ceremony area is circular in shape, which allowed me to move around the circumference to find the right angle to shoot from.

The photo above is of the traditional "Hora", or chair dance. No jewish wedding is complete without it. I like this photo because it brings together tradition, celebration in a slick contemporary setting. When things settled down, the bride and groom had their dance. The dance floor had a nice reflective surface which works wonders for photos. Its not like the cheap wooden ones you see in some venues.
