Engagement session at cal poly pomona
These photos were taken at California State Polytechnic University Pomona. We had the opportunity of photographing this couple at the university they attended. It was great working with them because they they were so expressive and had wonderful chemistry that came through on so many of our shots. The college offers a variety of locations with different looks or themes. For this shoot we visited Building 98 (a modern structure), the Japanese Gardens and the Old Stables.
It was great shooting at Cal Poly because you can quickly move from one location to the next. And each location has its own look, which gives clients a variety of different shots. The campus has a working Arabian horse ranch, rose gardens and avocado groves. The photo above shows the couple in front of the school at one of the older buildings. Its architecture is a spanish style and the courtyard has a large fountain. The college has excellent aesthetic qualities and has been designed over the years by famous architects like Myron Hunt (Rose Bowl, Huntington Library), Charles Gibbs Adams (Hearst Castle Gardens in San Simeon, California), and more recently Antoine Predock.
As with most of our photo sessions, we provide clients a small amount of direction. For the most part its up to them to do what they feel is natural to them. The photo above was taken as the guy was helping his girl put on her shoe. I had already stopped taking portraits of them, when I noticed them doing this. I love this photo because it reminds me of the "cinderella slipper" scene, and because it was a candid shot.
