Wedding At the Bel Air Presbyterian Church
These photos were taken at the Bel Air Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles, CA. The church is located atop a hill and has incredible views of the LA area. There are large open spaces with clean lines making it easy to compose photographs. The photo above was shows the circular layout of the seats and large side windows of the 1600-seat sanctuary. It was taken before any of the guests arrived. During the ceremony photography was only allowed from the balcony at the back of the church.
Large windows on the side of the sanctuary allow plenty of light to enter the building. Flash photography was not allowed during the ceremony but there was enough available light to take quality photographs. The photo above of the bride and groom kissing was taken at iso 800 without flash.
The photo above of the bride and father was taken from inside the church looking through a glass door. I loved her posture, confidence and the way the windows frame the photograph. The architecture in the sanctuary incorporates long vertical rectangles throughout the building. I found a number of these elements and had fun incoporating the modern aesthetic from the architecture into my photographs.
The photo above is of the bride and groom after the ceremony. The Bel Air Presbyterian church has a nice prayer garden next to the sanctuary which we used for formal portraits. By the time the ceremony ended, the sun was lower in the sky which gave us great lighting for the bridal portraits.
The photo above shows the upper level parking lot, next to the sanctuary. The parking lot has a nice uphill entrance and provides photo opportunities as the bride and groom arrive or leave the church.
